Assessment

Although you can choose to have an 'Assessment' by phone lasting about 30 minutes, I encourage face to face assesments, please allow up to 90 minutes.

This initial meeting or interview is very important as it gives us an opportunity to see how we might work together;counselling helps people explore the depth of their present emotions, however distressing and painful they are, so choosing the right Counsellor to work with can be crucial.

It's also a time to gather information and construct a picture of what might be happening with you. This time can be utilised to look at possible explanations of the problem and offer targets to make any changes and answer questions you might have , to harness your expectations and to determine your desired outcomes from counselling.

It is important to be clear about what you want and what your counsellor is able to offer. Everything you discuss is confidential between you and the counsellor; any exceptions should be clarified as part of the agreed contract for working.

During the assessment or first session be prepared to trust your instinct; your relationship with your counsellor is at the centre of the work; having confidence in your counsellor is important.

Sessions:
Once we agree to work together, counselling is face-to-face.
Sessions are usually weekly , at the same time on the same day and each session will last 50 minutes.

How many sessions:
Sessions are open ended; we can both work together to arrive at what will work best for you.

Feedback/Reports:
You will be invited to feed back on your experience with your counsellor, this information is always welcome and is used for further training and services' improvements.

Reports on the Counselling sessions and outcome are not usually produced unless requested for legal reasons.
